The Outback

Chasing Themeda and Sorghum species across the vast, remote and sparsely populated Australian outback was a scientific and personal adventure. Fieldwork in this iconic region presented unique challenges: the heat reached 45°C, and waterholes were off-limits for swimming as crocodiles had somehow reached areas hundreds of kilometres inland from the coast. Despite these harsh conditions, sharing a couple of these journeys with great friends and fellow botanists made it an unforgettable experience, giving me the chance to explore the unique flora of this remarkable landscape.
